Reframing BEST to avoid seeking PERFECTION

by Anika Luthra  - October 12, 2023

Do your best for today.
Don’t wait for tomorrow.

The Oxford Dictionary defines Perfection as ‘without fault’ and ‘complete’ – as best as is possible.

What defines this best? Is there a proven scale?
Who defines this best?  Am I not the judge of that?

My pursuit of doing a task at its best was driven by believing in a 100% perfect picture.

A picture that was influenced by what I had seen and been awed by – stories of others.

So, trying to build this picture created with borrowed identities, it took me…

– 7 more years than I had envisioned to start my business finally

– 8 more months than I had planned to launch my website finally

– 20 years to create my own piece of content on LinkedIn finally

I found every excuse in the book to tell myself ‘I am not there yet’ – I am not a published author or celebrity influencer, I don’t come from an entrepreneurial background, Why would anyone be interested in reading what I have to share….

I sabotaged my own growth for months and years, by not showing up and not contributing to the knowledge exchange.  And realized pursuing perfection to START for me only created a waste of time…time like a river which once it flows will never come back.  And in the end, all I was left with was regret.

No more.

I have decided to #rewritetherules on my definition of best, as a commitment to #constantlearning and #selfgrowth.  My best today is #betterthanyesterday.

I am #showingup here today.

If you are still waiting to meet your best, STOP. Don’t wait for tomorrow or the day after or someday.

You are #goodenough today.

If you’ve been waiting for permission or some magical moment, I invite you to #giveitago. Just DO IT. OWN IT. MAKE IT happen. And keep rewriting your rules.

[Note: With reference to Oxford’s ‘definition of perfection’ – This post is without grammar faults and has a start and finish, so it’s complete.]
